The word “poor” has long ago ceased to have any real descriptive meaning in this world. What poverty means has become completely subjective, and also very personal and political. For example, a recent survey showed that almost everyone who makes below $70,000/year considers themselves to be poor (or struggling,) regardless of any official nomenclature of […]
This is the story of writing when you are too young to know anything, and about almost destroying an eye at age eighteen. It may take me a bit to get to the eye bit of the story, but it’s all of a piece.
The process of a novel making it’s way into being a movie is long and sometimes complicated. But we seem to be moving right along. Things are going great in PA movie news, and I hope to have stuff I can share with you soon, but take my word for it — the project is […]
I’ve written a few other articles about this adventure of a novel making its way to film. You might want to check them out either before or after you read this one: Bringing the Amish to Hollywood, or Selling a Film Option 101 (Nov. 2015) Traversing the Hollywood Maze (March 2016) Pennsylvania: A big budget […]

Few foods combine the attributes of being healthy, being easy to produce, and being naturally harmonious with an independent lifestyle. Chicken Bone Broth in particular is one of the few foods that truly can be called a “Superfood” (I know that word is overused, and usually erroneous, but in this case it is not.) Bone broth is easy to make, utilizes parts (bones) usually cast aside or sold as a post-industrial commodity in most industrial/consumer/commercial applications, and is one of the few products where the by-product of the main food source is actually healthier than the main food source.
The solar oven is one of the best tools we own. Not one of the best “survival/preparedness” tools, but one of the best tools period.
I made a video for you! This is making sauerkraut the old school way, with the philosophy behind fermentation rather than a focus on ingredients and recipes.
This whole thing is a metaphor. It still works and is true the way it’s written, but sometimes I’m too subtle so… this whole thing is a metaphor. We live completely off-grid on an off-grid farm in Central Texas. The grid really doesn’t have much to do with my topic today, living disconnected from it […]
