Late last year I was asked to write a story for a Crime Fiction short story anthology. Don’t laugh. I knew it was, on the surface at least, completely out of my normal genres. But the thing that attracted me was that it was crime stories based on Outlaw Country songs. Outlaw Country? That’s right in my wheelhouse. But still, being considered an “Amish Sci-fi” writer made it seem like a weird fit. It helped that James Tuck, Jr., the editor, allowed me to make mine a western, crime, time-travel story – which was much the same vibe as my story The Santa Anna Gold which has been very popular.
