More Laundry Tips

This is a picture of my laundry set up as it is now. From the right to the left is my dirty clothes hamper, presoak bucket, wash basin with the washboard in it, my 2 rinse buckets, and my clean laundry basket. I do have to say the handwash system really gets the clothes clean! It has kept me from throwing away some of Sarah's dresses that a machine would have never gotten clean. Recently I brought some clothes lines from my line at my old house because the line is better than any I have ever tried. It is called Green Vinyl Coated Galvanized Wire. It lasts much longer than other lines I have tried and it does not sag much under the weight of clothes when they are wet. The lines I recently put up were already 5 years old and they are still doing great. I found some of this wire at our local general store. They sell it by the foot and you can find it in a hardware store(Home Depot, Lowe's, etc) where they sell chain by the foot. At this store it was 31 cents a foot but I think it would be cheaper at Home Depot or Lowe's. It might be more expensive than the line they sell in the laundry section but it is worth the investment.

As I mentioned in my last post, I had a surprise last week when I went to the root cellar for some supplies to make breakfast. It was about 5:30am and I was going down to the root cellar for some sausage we had canned recently. We can alot of our meat so it does not require a freezer or refrigeration. Anyway this was at the bottom of the steps:
It is sort of difficult to tell but it is a recently shed snake skin. It was about 4&1/2 feet long and really kind of cool to look at, the children thought so too. Although I did not need any thing like coffee to wake up that morning!! In the light of my flashlight it looked like a real snake! We have been leaving our root cellar door open at night since the evenings have been cooler lately. The root cellar starts to heat up a bit after a long hot summer. The skin was pretty intricate, you could see the eyes and mouth along with other details:

Later on that day after a day of chores and other work Tracy made some sugar cookies again and I did get a picture this time:

I also promised Sarah I would post the pictures that she painted that day. Here is some of her handy work:

She really enjoys painting! You all have a blessed week!

In Christ,
Danielle

Wonderful pictures! Well minus the snake...lol...but at least it wasn't huge.
I just posted a blog yesterday about the critters that have found their way into my home sweet home and I have only been here for 2 months! It must be Texas...lol.

I hope you have a safe and blessed week!

Oh I wanted to ask...does your family have devotions / Bible study / worship time together each morning? :-)

Blessings,
Dawn

Nice laundry setup. This week, I had the opportunity to do laundry by hand, again. We got Ike here. LOL! Ohio had a hurricane. Nothing like the "hurricane states" get, but it was something else, alright.

The cookies look very nice and I love the artwork. I am a little artsy myself.

A few years ago I found one of those snake skins in the cabinet underneath my kitchen sink. I tore the house apart looking for the snake, but never did find it. I guess it slithered and right back out.

Well after finding the skin I probably would have looked around to see if the rest of it was still down there... yikes. I am not a snake or spider fan. I would have been very awake as well. Yummm sugar cookies... Tell Sarah her art work is lovely. See you all very soon!

Dawn,
We usually read a Proverb after breakfast each morning. Since there are 31 it works nicely with the days of the month. We also use the Rod & staff Bible programs for each child.

Hi! I'm new to your blog, and I really like it! I love your laundry tips; especially about the clothes line. I need to get one like you mentioned, as I've already had to replace two lines! Where I live, it's not unusual for it to get upwards of 110 degrees. It just destroys the lines! Not to mention other things as well!
Bless you and your family!

When I was a little girl we would find snake skins in our root cellar all the time....once, a snake actually fell on my dad as he was walking through the doorway! Needless to say, it was NOT one of my favorite places ;-)

I enjoyed reading about how you do laundry. I've hand washed laundry out of pure need before, back when we first bought our house we had no running water for like a month (Looooong story) and I had to hand wash. It takes a special kind of determined woman to do that, it is NOT an easy thing! :-)

Thank you for sharing more on your laundry set up. We'll get to that soon here! We're actually excited about it -- I'm hoping to keep that excitement going once we actually start!

My children loved the snake skin pictures. We have found them here and there, but I tend to steer clear of the 'fun' when they appear. The children touch and feel and handle it and I go back to the house. I'm not much for snakes, dead or alive :o) It's bad enough they bring me every lizard and spider they come across so we can look it up. eeewwww eeewwww and double eeewwww! I know...some country woman I am!

Delicious looking cookies! And, Sarah, I loved your paintings.

Blessings,
Deanna

Thanks for the tips you've inspired me once again, this time I had enough time to thank you for it. I did some hand washing last week (my things) my husband and sons get grimmy but maybe a wash board will help.
Thanks
Roz

Love the laundry set-up. It reminds me of how we did laundry in Mexico. My sister-in-law has a very cool washboard...it is a cement basin of sorts with the ridges of our traditional "wood" wash boards. She mounts it on a platform to keep it waist level to minimize bending over. I have some pics somewhere...i'm determined to get them out now! Blessings to you and your family.
