Growing Up Agrarian

We are four Christian, homechurched, homeschooled, homesteading, agrarian children growing up in Central Texas on a Ranch. We are Tracy,(15) Jennifer,(10) Robert,(9) and Sarah(5) Bunker. We also have one more brother, Thomas Shepard Bunker, who is in the courts of glory. We like to read books, raise animals, and play on the land. Tracy will be writing about the stuff we do. We hope you enjoy our Adventures!

A Windy Day

Today we had a filling breakfast of potatoes, eggs, tortillas, and bacon. Yesterday Daddy, Mihai, and Robert worked with our longhorn calf Pita. Daddy has Pita very well trained to his voice commands. Daddy had Pita on a lead, while Mihai slowly put Robert on Pita's back, but Mihai still held on to Robert just in case. Daddy told Pita to "get up", and she tried to run, but Dad held on to her. Mihai would pull Robert off if Pita tried to run. They tried again and again, until Pita walked calmly with Mihia holding Robert on her back. Daddy said he will ride her when she is big enough to hold him.

Jennifer is having problems with her muscle in her leg. She has trouble standing up from a chair. Daddy says she probably just strained her muscle playing or jumping. We are praying for her.

Robert is still reading Huckleberry Finn.
Jennifer is reading Old Yeller.
Tracy is reading Farmer Boy (by Laura Ingalls).

It is windy and cold here today. It has been getting cold at night. The men are pouring concrete around the root cellar. They are almost finished!

Well, so long until next time!

Comanche, Longhorns, and other cool stuff.

Hi again from the Ranch!

Yesterday we went to the Livestock Auction in Comache and saw a lot of cows and a couple goats, too. After that we walked around the Comanche square and went into some antique stores. There was a cool, old log cabin named Old Cora and we got to look inside it, too. The wind was pretty chilly, so we got into the car and drove back to Brownwood. Then we a yummy Lady Burger at Studebakers.

When we got back to the Ranch, Robert and Tracy went to milk the Longhorns. After we were done, we decided to put Pedro (our little bull calf) back in with his momma, Holga, by ourselves since he is small and we can control him on a lead. As Tracy was tying him up to a tree branch, Holga got excited and Robert thought she was too close so he tried to scare her away. Holga did not move so Robert jumped at her. She snorted and ran at him, knocking him down. Rosa, another mother cow, came and started rolling him around and pushing her head into his back. By that time Tracy had let go of Pedro and came running to scare the cows away, who had crowded around Rosa and Robert. Tracy got Robert off the ground and dusted him off. He had a purple lump forming above his left eye, but he was otherwise unhurt. Thank God!! He was pretty shaken and wide eyed but yelled "I'm okay!" as soon as he was off the ground. He was a trooper and did not cry but laughed about it later. Mr. Sifford and Daddy came running and Dad whacked Holga in the head with a shovel.

Today we had a singing and lunch today with the Siffords. We had a yummy turkey, rolls, blackeyed peas, green bean casserole, and brownies.

Well so long for now!!
